History	This station has gone through many incarnations in its long history.  It began in 1924 as WGBS, broadcasting from the in-store studio of its owner, Gimbel`s Department Store.  After a number of frequency changes, the station was sold to newspaperman William Randolph Hearst in 1932, who renamed the station WINS, after his International News Service.  WINS moved to its present frequency, 1010kc, on October 30, 1943.  In 1954, new owner Crosley Broadcasting brought in Alan Freed as part of a rock `n roll format which lasted until 1965.  On April 19, 1965, then-owner Westinghouse introduced the all-news format heard to this day.
